History
In 2009, Hans Gerwitz and Shannon E. Thomas published a blog post calling for a Bus Driver Appreciation Day. This was publicized by local transit-oriented blogs in Seattle, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Then in 2013, Portland's TriMet established busdriverday.org. By 2014, TriMet included rail operators by changing the name of Bus Driver Appreciation Day to Transit Driver Appreciation Day. Their site migrated to transitdriverday.org and the Amalgamated Transit Union began publicly observing the day with the new name. This fostered extensive recognition throughout North America.
The Appreciation Day is going strong as transit is and remains essential public transportation.
Tri Delta Transit has over 150+ professional bus operators (drivers) who work day in and day out, rain or shine, and on holidays to provide public transportation to the 315,000 residents of eastern Contra Costa County.
We are so lucky and fortunate to have each and every one of them in our Tri Delta Transit Family.
IN HONOR OF THE DAY:
For March 18, 2023, Tri Delta Transit honors our operators with a FARE FREE day. On this Saturday ONLY, rides are free on all fixed route, paratransit and Tri MyRide ride hailing shuttle service for the day.
Fares will return to normal on Sunday, March 19, 2023.
